This is a set of two fire in place stick pin style brooch pins with butterfly style backs.
The pins are base metal (NOT fine or sterling silver) and can be embedded in to metal clay. NOTE: The pin will go black in firing but can be polished back to a shiny silver-colored metal.
The pin is 6mm long x 1mm wide. The base plate is 5mm wide.
Do not fire with butterfly back attached.
Notes for use:
Make sure the tiny prong protruding from the base plate is clear of the metal clay surface. The pin is there to stop the butterfly back from spinning if you are using a single pin on the piece. It also acts as a guide to stop you embedding the pin to far down so the butterfly back doesn’t connect correctly.
Firing guide
Protect the pin in the kiln with fire blanket. Place on a kiln shelf on top of kiln blanket with the pins facing down pushed into the blanket. This will give them a little thermal protection.
Fire at 1200F (650C) with 30 min soak or up to 1472F (800C) with 5 min soak. Do not fire them higher than 1472F they can become brittle and snap.
Sian fires at 1400F (760C) with a 15 min soak
